Essential Tools Every Crafter Should Have in Their Workspace

I’ll never forget the first time I tried pressing an HTV design onto a T-shirt. I was so excited…until I lifted the press and realised the vinyl hadn’t stuck properly. Turns out, my old iron just wasn’t cutting it. That’s when I learned the hard way that having the right tools makes all the difference in crafting!

Whether you’re just starting out or have been crafting for years, having a well-equipped workspace is a game-changer. Here are the essential tools I swear by for Sublimation, DTF, UVDTF, Vinyl and HTV crafting!

1. Quality Blanks

Your tools are only as good as the blanks you use! Whether it’s T-shirts, tumblers, tote bags, or keychains, I always make sure my blanks are designed for HTV, Sublimation, DTF, or UVDTF to get the best results.

2. A Reliable Heat Press

Let’s be real—if you’re working with HTV, sublimation, or DTF, a heat press is non-negotiable. A good one provides even heat and consistent pressure, which is key to getting vibrant, long-lasting designs. I used to think lint rollers were just for clothes—until I ruined a tote with tiny specks of dust. Now, I always roll over my blanks before pressing to make sure nothing interferes with the transfer. Trust me, it makes a huge difference!

8. Alcohol Wipes or Rubbing Alcohol

Before applying vinyl to mugs, bottles, or other hard surfaces, it's important to remove any dust, oils, or residue for better adhesion. Rubbing alcohol or alcohol wipes help create a clean, smooth surface, ensuring your designs stick properly and last longer. This simple step can make a big difference in the durability of your projects!

9. Measuring Tools (Rulers & T-Square)

I used to just “eyeball it” when placing designs... until I ended up with a bunch of off-center T-shirts. 😅 A T-square and ruler help ensure perfect alignment, making your projects look professional every time.
