7 different things you didn’t think you could use your cricut for
Your Cricut machine (or any cutting machine like a silhouette) is pretty powerful. From sticker paper to cardstock, to fabric, to wood, even acetate-your machine can probably cut it! Double check thicknesses and what materials your machine can actually cut, but chances are it can. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
1. Decals for just about any hard surface.
Like these decals I made for a suitcase.
Or this Australia Post van toy I made for my son:
Since vinyl used to make street signs and to cover cars, it pretty much can be cut to adhere to any surface, the world is your oyster!
2. Fabric like denim or faux leatherette.
I used this template from Etsy to make these linky wristlets. They’re cut out of faux leatherette. I cut it with my rotary blade on denim setting. It was probably a touch too deep, but I didn’t have enough time to play with the settings, but you could always try less pressure the next time you cut this material!
3. Using HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl) to use on any PU vegan leather (or leatherette)
I’ve used HTV on all types of PU leather, from this jewellery box:
To these wristlet clutches:
Watch my video tutorial on how I add the HTV - short bursts is key!
4. Material - clothing yes, but all types of fabric.
Think satin, cotton, canvas, denim even! So many materials so little time!
Like these satin PJ’s (think bridal party!)
Santa sacks, these are canvas.
Even velvet, how cute are these Easter bags!
HTV can be used to personalise so many things!
5. Cardstock-but not just cards!
Cake toppers
Print and cut is great for this. Just design your image, add an offset, a few BBQ skewers, and you’re good to go. There’s a cake hack here too!
And talking about print and cut, I made these last minute baptism candles for my sons (mum life!) using Design Space. I ended up cutting it by hand, but I used Design Space to size them up.
6. Engraving
Yes, your Cricut machine can engrave :) You need an engraving blade, and make sure the material you engrave under is thinner than 2.4 mm. I’ve only engraved acrylic so far, but I’ve seen it used on craft wood.
I once made bookmarks for a whole class!
7. Everything wedding related
I’ve heard of brides buying a Cricut machine JUST for their weddings. From invites to wedding favours - there’s so much to make. Besides, everyone wants that personalised touch on their special day.
